QUESTION:
How do I begin to research vintage fabric selection for a sewing project?
I'd like to sew 1954, 1955 and 1956 vintage patterns using authentic fabrics, prints and/or textures. The reproduction pattern packaging from 2010 and 2011 suggests broadcloth, taffeta, shantung, faille and damask. I've seen professional samples of the dresses out of some of these fabrics and it just doesn't have that true 1950s look. It's just not convincing. The patterns are Butterick patterns: B5605, B5556 and Vogue pattern V8687.

ANSWER:
And you may not find anything but close.Manufacturing processes and even the country or origin is not the same as in the 1950s. Back then no one would buy anything from a middle eastern country. The Korean War was ending and WWII was still very fresh in the minds of many families.

QUESTION:
Anyone wish there is a site similar to Anthropologie but less pricy?
I love all their clothes and accessories from Anthropologie, unfortunately they're a bit too expensive for me plus they don't ship internationally (I currently live in Asia). I do believe there're other gals out there looking for unique designs with a more reasonable price tag. So I'm thinking to open an online boutique selling vintage inspired clothing from individual designers while offering a nicely decorated website that makes shopping as fun as Anthropologie (at least try to be). Can anyone offer any suggestion? Thanks a lot!!1. Should I offer something different by carrying products from Asian designers or should I stay on the main stream of European/US designs?
2. What do you think about vintage reproduction clothing (e.g. made out of vintage pattern or retro print fabric)?
3. Would people feel insecure to order from an international site which doesn't have a physical store?
4. Targeted price range of products?
Thanks a million!
